Trust Sites

The Trust has services within East Lancashire including:

  • Burnley General Teaching Hospital
  • Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital
  • Pendle Community Hospital
  • Accrington Victoria Community Hospital
  • Clitheroe Community Hospital

There is a total of over 950 in-patient beds at Burnley General Teaching Hospital and Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital.

In-patient rehabilitation services are also provided at Pendle Community Hospital and at the Rakehead Unit at Burnley General Teaching Hospital, which specialises in neurological rehabilitation.

Out-patient and diagnostic services are also provided at Accrington Victoria Community Hospital, Clitheroe Community Hospital, Rossendale and St. Peter’s Primary Health Care Centres and various premises and health centres throughout East Lancashire.

Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital

The Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital provides a full range of hospital services to adults and children. This includes general and specialist medical and surgical services along with a full range of diagnostic (e.g. MRI, CT scanning) and support services.

The Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital opened in July 2006.

In addition to the modern facilities within the first stage of the hospital, the new building includes state of the art in-patient facilities, centralised out-patients department, new operating theatres and Emergency Department.

Burnley General Teaching Hospital

Burnley General Teaching Hospital provides a full range of hospital services.  This includes general and specialist medical and surgical services along with a full range of diagnostic (e.g. MRI, CT scanning) and support services.

Burnley General Teaching Hospital is East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust’s site which specialises in planned (elective) treatment.

The hospital includes an Urgent Care Centre for treatment of minor injuries and illnesses.  It does not include an Emergency Department or supporting facilities such as out-of-hours intensive care – these services are provided from the Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital.

Pendle Community Hospital

Pendle Community Hospital in Nelson provides in-patient intermediate care and medical beds.  The hospital comprises of three wards each accommodating up to 24 patients.  The hospital provides medical and nursing care for people with long-term conditions and a rehabilitation service for people following illness or injury.

Accrington Victoria Hospital

The Accrington Victoria Hospital is a community hospital providing in-patient services and a Minor Injuries Unit for the local population.

The hospital also has access to dedicated specialist services such as Physiotherapy, Podiatry and Renal services together with a range of out-patient services.

Accrington Victoria Community Hospital has one inpatient, Ward 2, which is an 18 bedded adult, female ward with medical cover.

The following outpatient services are based within Accrington Victoria Hospital; Xray, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Orthotic Dept, Minor Injuries, Paediatrics Audiology, Bladder and Bowel service, Heart Failure service.

Clitheroe Community Hospital

This new state-of-the-art £7.8 million building gives the residents of Clitheroe and surrounding areas a hospital fit for the 21st Century. The new building has a 32-bedded inpatient ward on the first floor of the new Ribbleside Ward and is designed with dementia friendly principles and has disabled access throughout. The outpatient clinics includes Consultant services within Orthopaedics, Urology, Vascular, Medicine, Ophthalmology, fields test clinics and Paediatric services. There will also be physiotherapy teams based at the new hospital, along with a modern, digitally-enhanced x-ray facility that will continue to provide imaging facilities for patients and a new ultrasound unit has also recently opened.
